Nutritional Supplements – Going Going GONE

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

If you’re an avid consumer of nutritional supplements  then you’ve probably already heard at least something about the FDA’s  ongoing  quest to take over and essentially hand control of the entire nutritional supplements industry to the pharmaceutical companies.

In a nutshell the FDA is attempting to take away OUR RIGHT to choose and buy nutritional supplements and give complete control of the health of the population to Big Pharma.

Treating Fibromyalgia With Nutritional Supplements

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

Question: From Maggie

I’m new to your site and trying to examine a product I purchased for my fibromyalgia. It is Source Natural’s ‘Fibro-Response’ with Malic Acid and MSM.

I usually never buy before researching but guess I had a “stupid” moment and did so—-but I want to know more about its contents before I start taking it.

It is so difficult to ascertain whether a vitamin/herb/supplement is a quality product.

I have used vitamins/supplements for many of my 62 years and I sure do need a product for my fibromyalgia and my arthritis.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Benefits Of Olive Leaf Extract

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Question: From Tony

I have been reading with interest your information on Olive Leaf Extract.

My interest stems from recovery from minor heart surgery for 2 stents to be implanted.

The doctors are treating me with aspirin 300mg, Plavix and 10 mg Crestor. I am about to be given medication to lower blood pressure.

As your article mentioned some conflict with antibiotics, will Olive Leaf Extract interfere with the above medication?

In addition my wife has an under performing Thyroid for which she has medication. You mention great results when taken for the immune system how will it play in this situation?

I look forward to your response

Cheers

Nutritional Supplement Help with Pancreatic Cancer

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Question: From Olivier

My mother has pancreatic cancer. I have found a product that is a mix of minerals that I believe can heal my mother (at least 2 people with pancreatic cancer healed with it).
It is at: http://www.healthhouse.co.nz/CAA%20capsule%20ingredients.html

Now, I dont want to debate that part. I believe it can heal. That’s it. That’s not my issue.

The problem is, they have refined the product (capsule) over the years, and sadly, they have added vitamins. And synthetic vitamins (anything beside real food) have been proven to accelerate pancreatic cancer/tumors.

So my dilemma is I would like to have that supplement, but without all the vitamins. Just the minerals, which they list with the exact quantity – in a sort of custom pill, or at least a pill/source of each and have my mother take those together, for the same effect – just without the fr–ing ‘killing’ vitamins.
And I would want those minerals to be the chelated as natural as possible.

Can you please please tell me if its possible and sources where to get individual ingredients, or have them put together?

Please help me. My mother is all I have.

Thanks so much, for whatever honest answers you will give me.

Best regards
Olivier

Proving Nutritional Health Supplement Label Claims

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Question: From Gene

You are promoting the Total Balance multi nutrient health supplement so I have a question. Why doesn’t the manufacturer, Xtend-Life, release their COA’s for Total Balance to prove that all the ingredients are truly there in the claimed amounts?

Response From Brett:

Hi Gene

I contacted the xtend-life company about your question.

Nutritional Health Supplements With No Fruits Or Vegetables

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Question: From Mohd

I have few questions regarding my diet and nutritional vitamin and health supplements.  First of all I’m a 23 years old male. I have a problem in eating vegetables and fruits. In my daily diet I don’t eat any. It is very rare that I eat vegetables or fruits.  Can you guide me regarding what supplements I should take in order to have a good and healthy body. I mean the supplements to cover all the losses. I hope to hear from you soon.

Response From Brett:

Hi Mohd

Ok, the first thing to understand and accept here is that nutritional health supplements, even the absolutely most effective formulas out there,  ARE NOT going to replace the need for a regular intake of fruits and vegetables in your diet !

That’s why they are called supplements - because they are supplemental to a ‘normal’ functioning body (and normal body functioning rests on the comprehensive nutritional foundation provided through a widely varied and healthy diet.) There is no way around this (despite what some ‘leading’ supplement companies ‘indirectly imply’ in their clever marketing presentations and literature!)

Anti Aging Wrinkle Treatments – Does Anything Truly Work?

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

So, who isn’t interested in anti aging wrinkle cures? If you’re a part of the baby boomer’s generation (or younger) then I bet you’ve got some kind of anti aging program or strategy going on.

Of course you know as well as I do that there is a literal mountain of products out there, all of which supposedly give you the anti aging wrinkle results you so desperately desire. If you’re well read however then you know all too well that most anti aging products barely do anything!

The fancy marketing presentations (aka ‘lies’ and ‘mis-truths’) that manufacturers come up with to ‘spin’ their products are designed to mis-lead you and tell you what you want to hear. They also cleverly hide any and all weaknesses that each product contains. But, their days of basking in the vast profits that amass from consumers lack of knowledge are fast coming to an end!

Over the past 10 years researchers have been hard at work learning what actually works and why. So, let’s just cut to the chase!

When it comes to anti aging wrinkle cures what works and what doesn’t work? And just how many ‘PROVEN” anti aging wrinkle substances actually exist?

Well, according to a recent review in The Archives of Dermatology, there are THREE treatments out there waiting for you which are “proven clinically effective”!

Anti Aging Secrets And Nutritional Supplements – Part 1

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Todays post about anti aging secrets with respect to nutritional health supplements is a very interesting one which I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading. You’re going to discover a number of ‘eye opening’ facts which most of you won’t have come across before.

These are facts which supplement manufacturers and companies definitely don’t want you to know because they reveal major weaknesses and limitations in their products when it comes to anti aging claims.

I’ve decided to split this topic up because it’s quite a complex one. To keep it ‘readable’ and not bombard you with too much technical detail in any one post I’ve divided it into 4 parts which will appear over the next 2 weeks.

Multivitamin Super Supplements May Increase Your Risk For Cancer – Harvard Researchers Cite Studies

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Your nutritional vitamin supplement contains Folic acid, right?

Well it very well may cause you cancer - according to a recently released article!

That’s exactly what Harvard Medical School researchers have said in the March 2008 edition of their Harvard Men’s Health Watch newsletter.

They also cited studies to say that other multivitamin ingredients, namely [tag-tec]antioxidants[/tag-tec], [tag-tec]vitamins B6[/tag-tec], B12 and [tag-ice]Folic acid[/tag-ice] don’t prevent disease (cancer and heart disease).

Whole Food Supplements – Are They Worth It?

Friday, April 11th, 2008

In my last entry I talked about the term ‘natural’ in relation to nutritional supplements and then made some comments on a whole food multivitamin supplement which a reader asked me about.

This particular supplement was marketed in a very clever way to stress the importance of taking only a natural supplement with natural “whole food” ingredients.

If you read my comments you will see that product is nowhere near as good as it claims to be and because of the huge amount of vitamin C it contains it offers consumers very poor value for money. And some of the “whole food sourced” ingredients it promotes actually do not occur naturally so there’s a nice example of bending the truth to say the least.

Today I thought I would stay with this ‘whole food’ theme.
